TearSlaly

TearSlaly is a collaborative art project initiated by photographic artist Xinyue Tao and textile artist Weiyi Chen, focusing on multidisciplinary creation and experimentation between photography and textiles.

Our collaboration revolves around the core themes of “time” and “relationship,” and unfolds through regularly organized workshops, co-creation, and public events. By combining artistic practices such as lumen printing, natural dyeing, knitting, and performance, we explore the tension and complementarity between body and material.

WE are committed to breaking down boundaries between mediums and aim to foster deeper, more authentic connections between humans and nature, memory and the present through sensory and material interaction.

Workshops

Through workshops on alternative photography and plant-based textile practices, we aim to collectively create an open space for artistic creation and communication. More than skill-sharing, these workshops are a process of community-building. We hope that our participants are able to find belonging, express emotion, and foster meaningful connections through shared creation and conversation.

Artistic Collaborations

TearSlaly’s collaborative practice explores time and relationships through the intersection of photography and textile. While lumen printing captures fleeting moments in light, textile weaving unfolds slowly, stitching time into form. By combining the two, we create a dialogue between speed and slowness, image and texture, presence and memory. Over time, our practice has expanded into performative language—using the body and materials to intuitively reflect the shifting dynamics of our relationship.

Line in Progress

TearSlaly also hosts work-sharing gatherings, inviting creators from diverse mediums to share the processes, thoughts, and contexts behind their work. These sessions aim to foster dialogue, break down boundaries between artistic disciplines, and create an open, evolving space for co-creation—nurturing a supportive community where artists can grow together.
