Brush [MY] teeth, 2024
I disrupt the muscle memory of everyday routines like brushing teeth, blurring the distinction between myself in the mirror and in reality, like daydreaming.
I brush not only my own teeth but also those reflected in the mirror, embodying the confusion and disorder of the mirror stage as theorised by Lacan. During this time, I felt disconnected from myself.
Later, I realised I was using a camera as a third eye to observe myself in this mirror stage, while the exhibition audience views the relationship between the self and the other from the fourth perspective, seeing what the third eye (the camera) observes.
This creates a cycle of gazes, also unconscious and reality.
