The Eternal Presence, 2024

The Eternal Presence is the first handwoven textile I created during a site-specific residency in a Dong minority village where I engaged deeply with ancestral textile practices. Immersing myself in traditional handloom weaving, ikat dyeing, and natural dye processes, I engaged in each step with my own hands.

Unlike the immediacy of photographic techniques, weaving is a durational, embodied act—a method of encoding time, labor, and cultural knowledge into material container. The fabric thus becomes a tactile archive of continuity and presence.

This process was made possible through the generous support and guidance of the village’s intergenerational female community, whose daily labor sustains and transmits these practices. Their presence, patience, and shared knowledge converge—woven together to become the eternal presence.
